The C-17A conducted its maiden fl ight on September 15, 1991. Manufactured by the Boeing Company, the C-17A Globemaster III is the newest, most fl exible cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force. The first production model was delivered to the 437th Airlift Wing on 14 June 1993. The C-17A is powered by four fully reversible Pratt and Whitney F-117-PW-100 engines, each rated at 40,440 pounds of thrust. Capable of takeoff weights of 585,000 lbs., the C-17A can carry virtually all of the US Army’s air-transportable equipment to any hot spot in the world.
