The C-5M Super Galaxy, manufactured by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, is a long-range, high-speed, high-altitude, swept wing airplane, designed for use as a heavy logistic transport. The C-5M is the largest aircraft in the Air Force with a maximum takeoff and landing weight of 840,000 pounds capable of lifting 140 tons of cargo and 95 personnel. It is powered by four General Electric CF6-80C2-L1F turbofan engines producing 51,250 pounds of thrust each. Some of the unique design features of the airplane are: a forward and aft cargo door system enabling straight through loading and unloading; a landing gear kneeling system which enables the cargo deck to be tilted nose down or tail down, or to be lowered in the level position.
