The KC-10A “Extender” is a modified version of the McDonnell-Douglas DC-10-30 freighter with added fuselage fuel cells, aerial refueling boom and receiver receptacle, and a hose/drogue assembly. Capable of refueling aircraft while transporting their support personnel and equipment on deployments, the KC-10 is powered by three General Electric CF6-50C2 turbofan engines, each producing 52,500 lbs. of thrust. The KC-10 has a maximum gross weight of 590,000 lbs., cruising at a speed of Mach .82 and service ceiling of 42,000 feet.
