The KC-135R “Stratotanker” is the military version of the Boeing 707. The KC-135R can fly with gross weights up to 322,000 pounds, and is powered by four CFM F56 engines, each producing 22,900 pounds of thrust. The Air Force provided a new Communications, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) upgrade, otherwise known as “Block 45,” that included a new autopilot and other safety modifi cations that will extend the life of the tanker while the KC-46 comes online.
